PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Paul Lew is a pioneering inventor, designer, manufacturer, and operator with over 35 years in high-performance carbon-fiber composites and 27 years in unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Founder and CEO of Lew Composites (1989) and Lew Aerospace, he is widely recognized as the inventor of the first commercial carbon clincher bicycle rim/wheel (1996–1998). He also designed the revolutionary Black Hole hubless/spokeless front wheel, which was raced by professional cyclist Brian Walton at the 1994 UCI World Track Cycling Championships before being banned by the UCI as an unfair advantage.
He served as Vice Chairman of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Wheel Committee and as a member of ISO/TC 149/SC 1 (ISO 4210) and Vice Chairman of ISO/TC 31/SC 10/WG 16 (ISO 5775 bicycle tire and rim standards). As Global CEO of EDCO (2016–2017), he led the U.S. expansion of the 115-year-old Swiss cycling components brand and acquired/directed the FASTER Cycling Performance Center — the world’s first low-speed wind tunnel purpose-built for cycling product development.
He has accrued over 2,400 hours of mission-specific flight logistics, planning, and operations and over 6,700 hours of operation, testing, and evaluation of dozens of manned and unmanned aerial systems for U.S. Government, military, and commercial customers. Paul holds 22 U.S. patents, 8 European and Taiwan patents, and 3 trademarks. He is a former professional triathlete (began racing in 1986) and continues to enjoy a multi-sport lifestyle.
